After the Upper Room

In John 13, two disciples face vastly different futures after leaving the upper room with Jesus. Judas, whose outer life didn't match his inner reality and whose love grew toward money rather than Jesus, responded to guilt with worldly sorrow that led to destruction. Peter, despite denying Jesus three times, found restoration because he recognized Jesus's faithfulness and sacrifice. The difference wasn't in their failures, but in their response to Jesus's grace. While Judas rejected the hand of grace extended to him, Peter accepted it and experienced restoration. We all face the same choice when we walk through life's doors - will we find sorrow or restoration on the other side?

The Lord's Supper serves three purposes: remembering Christ's death, prompting self-examination, and anticipating His return. Only believers in Jesus Christ should participate, as you cannot meaningfully remember someone you don't know.

Matthew 18:21-35: Unforgiveness is an Offense to God

Dwight L Moody said, “I believe that the sin that is causing Christians more difficulty than any other is the sin of an unforgiving spirit.” He said that sin holds back the power of God in our prayers, our hearts, and in our lives. We are, by nature, forgiveness bookkeepers. We like to keep track of how many times we've been wronged and had to forgive someone and why. Someone who sinned against us may apologize, but we sometimes don’t think that they're sorry enough. Or they may sincerely apologize to us, but we just can't get over the hurt. That will soon begin to eat away at us. Jesus describes a different approach for us in today's passage. A study of Matthew 18 21-35 based on “Explore the Bible: Spring 2026” from Lifeway.
